New Oslavany – uncovering the story of new streets

At Staré hoře, thanks to our project Nové Oslavany, a modern neighborhood is emerging that will bring new energy and a fresh face to the city. Along with the construction of houses, entirely new streets are also being created – and today we are unveiling their names to the public for the first time.

One of the streets will bear the name of Václav Čapek, a significant educator and director, ornithologist, and paleornithologist, who spent a large part of his life in Oslavany. Čapek gained fame throughout Europe for being the first to thoroughly elucidate the life cycle of the cuckoo. He was particularly interested in recent and Pleistocene ornithology and authored a number of publications about birds from the Moravian deluge.

Since birds were his lifelong passion, the other new streets in this area will also carry names inspired by these avian creatures. Which specific names they will be, we will keep as a little secret for now – their revelation will come later.

The entire naming proposal is now awaiting discussion and approval by the city council. However, we are convinced that Nové Oslavany will connect modern living with the story of nature and the legacy of a personality that the locals can justifiably be proud of.
